What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) defines counselling and psychotherapy as:
“Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing...
What therapists do:
-
Offer a safe and confidential space to help explore emotionally-based problems
-
Help you make sense of your world
-
Help you to explore feelings and thoughts, in order to resolve emotional distress
-
Help you towards a better understanding of self and others, which in turn may lead to an improved ability to relate to others
I provide humanistic counselling and psychotherapy, which means I understand that effective change and growth occur through building a trusting, empathic, and compassionate relationship between therapist and client. Through client-led sessions, you (as the client) experience self-empowerment over your past felt experiences and can take ownership of your future.

What is The BookShop?
If you buy books linked from my site, I may earn a commission from Bookshop.org, whose fees support independent bookshops. Occasionally in therapy, I may recommend books that could be helpful for clients. I use Bookshop.org to promote independent bookshops and summarise recommended reads. It’s your choice whether to buy through my affiliate Bookshop page.

What is your Confidentiality Policy?
I am committed to treating each client with respect and compassion and will keep what you tell me confidential. However, there are some circumstances where confidentiality may be broken, such as if I am worried that you or someone in your life may be harmed. In these cases, I would aim to discuss this with you first.
There are also occasions when the law requires me to disclose information, such as issues related to child protection, drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorist activities, or if I am subpoenaed by a court of law.
As part of ethical practice, I engage in monthly supervision to support my work with clients. My supervisor is bound by the same limits of confidentiality.
I keep brief notes about sessions on a secure, confidential system. Under the Data Protection Act, you have the right to see any records kept about you.
